HOW MASSAGE THERAPY CAN HELP
Massage Therapy offers a wide range of physical, mental and emotional benefits. While there is certainly a universal agreement that massage "feels good", it also offers many specific benefits. The therapeutic use of massage affects all systems of the body, most particularly circulatory, muscular, fascial and nervous systems. Some of the conditions and issues that Massage Therapy may assist with include:
- Stress Reduction: Massage therapy promotes relaxation by reducing the levels of stress hormones in the body. This can contribute to an overall sense of calm and well-being.
- Muscle Relaxation: Massage helps to release muscle tension and improve flexibility. It can alleviate muscle stiffness, soreness, and discomfort.
- Pain Management: Regular massage can be effective in managing chronic pain conditions such as back pain, arthritis, and migraines. It may also help reduce muscle spasms and improve overall pain tolerance.
- Improved Circulation: Massage enhances blood flow and lymphatic circulation, aiding in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to cells and promoting the removal of waste products.
- Enhanced Immune System Function: Studies suggest that massage therapy may boost the immune system by increasing the activity of natural killer cells and improving the body's ability to defend against illnesses
- Better Sleep Quality: Massage can improve sleep patterns by promoting relaxation and reducing stress and anxiety. This can lead to deeper and more restful sleep.
- Increased Joint Mobility: Regular massage can enhance joint flexibility and range of motion. It is particularly beneficial for individuals with conditions such as arthritis.
- Mood Enhancement: Massage triggers the release of endorphins, the body's natural mood elevators. This can help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, promoting a positive mental state.
- Improved Posture: Massage therapy can address imbalances in the musculoskeletal system, helping to correct and improve posture over time.
- Injury Prevention: By reducing muscle tension and improving flexibility, massage therapy can contribute to injury prevention, especially for individuals engaged in physical activities or sports.
- Injury Recovery: Massage therapy can play a valuable role in injury recovery by promoting healing, reducing pain and inflammation, improving range of motion and supporting overall physical and mental well-being. From whiplash to repetitive strain injuries to nerve impingements, massage therapy can aid in recovery.
- Scar Tissue Reduction: Massage techniques can help minimize the formation of scar tissue after injuries or surgeries, promoting better tissue healing and flexibility.
- Emotional Well-being: Massage provides a nurturing and comforting experience, fostering a sense of emotional well-being. It can be an essential component of self-care and stress management.
- Enhanced Body Awareness: Regular massage sessions encourage individuals to become more attuned to their bodies, promoting self-awareness and mindfulness.

FAQS
▪️ ARE YOUR MASSAGE THERAPISTS "REGISTERED"?
All of our Massage Therapists have a minimum 2200-hour education credential, are licenced by the City of Edmonton and hold an active membership with a recognized Massage Therapy Association. While the profession of Massage Therapy is not currently regulated in the province of Alberta, "registration" with a professional Massage Therapy Association ensures that your treatment is being provided by a professional who must meet standards of practice, ethics and continuing education.
▪️ IS MASSAGE THERAPY COVERED BY MY HEALTH BENEFITS?
The majority of health insurance plans cover Massage Therapy treatments. Direct billing to your insurance company is also available for the majority of insurers, but may vary by policy. It is recommended that you check with your insurance provider to determine coverage levels and whether direct billing is permitted.
▪️ DO I NEED TO UNDRESS FOR MASSAGE THERAPY TREATMENT?
Your Massage Therapist will discuss your current symptoms, explain the treatment approach and/or techniques to be used and will review with you the areas of the body to be treated. The level of undress and appropriate draping with sheets for physical privacy will also be discussed with you and is always according to your comfort level. Only the areas of the body being directly treated are uncovered at one time.
▪️ DO I NEED TO TALK DURING TREATMENT?
Your Massage Therapy session is dedicated entirely to you. Feel free to engage in conversation with your RMT if you enjoy chatting during your treatment. However, if you prefer a serene and quiet experience, there's no obligation to keep up a conversation. You can always communicate your preference with your RMT by saying, "I think I'd like a quiet session today." Rest assured, your practitioner will still check in with you during the treatment to ensure your comfort.
